Most people think the way you get into heaven is that, basically you’re a good person and that your goodness or good deeds should outweigh your badness or bad deeds. Right? Actually there is a good person test that God made so we can measure up to His heavens standards, it’s called the Ten Commandments.
For example, - Have you ever lied? (Even once?)
- Have you ever stolen anything? (The value of it is irrelevant)
- Have you ever used God’s name in vain? (Using God’s name as a swear word)
- Have you ever committed adultery? (The bible teaches that if you look at a person with lust in your heart that is the same as adultery. Matthew 5:28)
That’s just four of the commandments. Even if you have only broken one of God’s commands, that’s called sin, it’s like breaking a link in the chain of God’s law. Romans 6:23 starts by saying, “For the wages of sin is death” before a Holy and Righteous God we stand guilty, condemned and on our way to a place called Hell! Thankfully the same verse finishes by saying, “but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
The truth is that none of us measure up to God’s standard Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; and God knows this, so in order to make a way possible for us to be accepted, He sent His Son Jesus to pay the penalty of sin by dying on the cross for us, in place of us, instead of us.
Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Whilst Christ died for our sins, the victory was in God the Father showing His acceptance of that selfless sacrifice by the resurrection of the Lord Jesus from the dead.
1Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
John 11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
Now the door is open for us to be made right before God; and we are given an option to continue going our own sinful way & ignore God's way;
Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Or accept God’s way, given as a free gift by what the Lord Jesus Christ has done for us, by dying on the cross, so that our sins can be forgiven. To accept Gods way, we need to realize we are unable to cleanse ourselves of our shortcoming sin, and turn (repent) from our own ways and ask God to forgive us and accept us.
1John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
The way we do this is by calling out in faith to God,
Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
We do this in our hearts first and then express that call with our mouth in prayer.
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Romans 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Would you call on the name of the Lord today and have your sins forgiven and a home in heaven settled. It’s up to YOU.
1John 5:11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
1John 5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
1John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
